It is the end of a big final presentation. You feel that you and your team have done quite well. In departing a crowded room, you shake many hands and make eye contact with many key people. But somehow, in the press of people at the door, you neglect to say good-bye to a major decision-maker. No big deal, right? Ah, but it could be a very big deal.
A Canadian consultant told us this story: an investment firm lost a final presentation largely due to one presenter’s failure to say proper good-byes to an influential board member. The consultant was told, “Don’t bring that person back here.” To you, it is a handshake. To someone else, it may be an essential gesture of respect.
Moral: Don’t inadvertently snub anyone.
