Here’s a plan sponsor’s view of why a certain manager was selected as the winner in a competition among more than 20 investment firms: “I will never forget that presentation as long as I live…It started the same way they all start. You know, ‘The XYZ Company, founded in, blah-blah-blah…’ But then I asked a question and the president of the company came alive. He talked with enthusiasm about his experience, why he’s doing what he is doing, some of his own personal successes and failures and how the failures helped him achieve the success he currently enjoys. It was clear that he was passionate about his business, about the ideas that led to the creation of his company.”
Moral: Passion sells.
